TED 2009 utterly changed the trajectory of John’s life. As a lifelong entrepreneur in the internet industry John had the “soft skills” – he was always the Chief Evangelist for his various companies, he raised several hundred million dollars with his teams, but he was secretly envious of those with the “hard skills” and carried that chip on his shoulder. His experience at TED opened his eyes to a whole new level of power in public speaking. After that experience, John dove deep into the TED and TEDx community. While John was volunteering at an early TEDxSantaMonica event he had an epiphany that would change many lives, most significantly, his!
As he squirmed through the speech of a particularly brilliant but particularly awkward speaker he realized that if he just got over himself… If he could just let go of the chip on his shoulder and focused on the people who had the hard skills who were right in front of him on stage struggling. He could make a difference and give them the power of story so they have the ability to communicate their brilliant ideas. But, he realized he would need to do something different. He would have to base everything he did in the science of communication; human evolutionary biology and neurophysiology, so he could share not only what works when it comes to communicating with, leading, inspiring, and motivating human beings, but also why it works, based in science.
He went home after that event and began creating the material which he now delivers all over the world. John supports organizations like NASA, including the Astronauts, Johnson & Johnson, Boston Scientific, and many more.
