Who is Your Audience? Be Sure to Tell Them The Right Origin Story

As you begin to look for an Origin Story you will find that you actually have many Origin Stories. That’s a good thing! The next step is to identify which of your Origin Stories will matter most to the audience you have in mind!

I ran away with my Rock Band when I was 20, that’s one of my Origin Stories. I also share the time that my colleagues and I lost our company after raising more than $80M. Then I almost died of an auto-immune disease brought on by stress.

But, the story I tell most often these days is about being the guy with the soft skills who was envious of the people who had the hard skills, until I had an insight, got over myself, and started communications coaching, my Ikigai, my raison d’etre. My 1:45 video refers.

Think about what you can share about why you care, where you’re coming from and how you made your choices along the way. That will give your listeners meaningful insights into you, your character, your composition and what matters to you.

And remember, getting good at sharing all of your stories and the lessons you learned from them is a way to leverage your experience across everyone in your audience and your organization. Everyone who hears your stories will benefit from them!

On March 7th I will be offering a master class on discovering and creating your Origin Story. If you’d like FREE ACCESS register HERE
