Choose The Right Topic For Your Talks

How do you determine the Right Topics For Your Talk?

You’ve got a lot of meaningful, useful experiences and ideas that you could share, but you can’t share all of them in one talk, so how do you determine the right message? The right topic?

After working with thousands of people on their TED-like talks, I’m here to offer key pieces of coaching to get you past the often vexing problem of choosing exactly what topic to talk about.

First, think about: what you want to say; and what would it mean to your audience. Let those questions guide you as you consider the possibilities of the right topic.

Then, get completely clear about your one idea worth spreading. That’s the single most important piece of coaching that TED gives their speakers. Not your top three ideas, or your best five.

What is your ONE idea worth spreading? Everything in your topic of talk must align with that one idea, like the shaft of a spear behind the tip of the spear.

When you think and speak this way you will be more clear and YOUR AUDIENCE WILL REMEMBER YOUR MESSAGE!
